A.J., front and center in this photo. Oh just thinking about him makes me smile. A.J. was a classmate of mine at Wilmington Friends, my buddy on the track team (for the one year I ran. I was really good), and the manager of our basketball team.
When I came to Friends, I had just quit skating. Thinking I had at least endurance, I decided to run track. Only one problem: Friends didn't have a girls track program. Or much of a boys one for that matter. So I ran with the boys. Our friend Malcolm, a senior that year, taught me the hurdles and the high jump (I should totally be at the Olympics this week.) Although I realized you needed more than endurance for hurdles, it was so fun hanging out with these guys and being the only girl on the team.
I will always remember traveling to basketball games and joking with A.J. We recently reconnected on Facebook and it's been so nice to catch up. His sarcasm and sense of humor remain intact. (He also was shocked I'm not in Bejing.)
Is that a Rolling Rock that I see in R's hand, just above your shoulder? Tsk Tsk!!!!
AJ was such a nice young man. Glad you have reconnected. I am sure Malcolm is looking for you on TV this week! LOL LOL
