Season 19? How is that possible? And why am I even admitting I watched it?
Edited to Add: Yes, mom, you are correct, according to Wikipedia (which I trust for nothing except television factoids), the Real World's first episode was in fact, in 1992 (so they have averaged more than one season a year). I remember you not letting us watch it...The sad thing is that the Real World of 1992 was like a PBS special compared to the Real World of today. :)
...This has been my line for the last few weeks. Bag from Banana Republic outlet? It's for the trip! Huge package in the mail? It's for the trip! New shoes? For the trip!
So I think I have it narrowed down...But I'd still love some tips from any of you world travelers.
We will be arriving in Shannon, Ireland late September and spending 8 days (thanks to United for making our trip one day longer) throughout Ireland. We will then fly to London for three days where I shall show my family at least one of the 5,326 pubs I visited while living there.
We've been researching weather trends. If one thing is true, it seems that the weather that time of year will be anything but predictable. I've decided that layers are my best bet. My mother now refers to me as the "layer queen." Anyone ever shop at Down East Basics? If you don't, do. Especially if you hit a sale this site is a DEAL! I have about five t-shirts from there now and I guarantee you can wash them 100 times and they still look like the day you got them. I got four camis and six either longsleeve or 3/4 sleeve t's for $80. IT'S FOR THE TRIP!
The jacket has been another great shopping excursion. I love this jacket and
know I'll get a lot of use out of it (not on the trip) but IT'S FOR THE TRIP!
So...next...pants...For those of you who haven't met me. I'm sort of tall. As in, can never just walk into a store and buy pants. As in, have to annoyingly order all pants online and spend too much money tall. I'm thinking a solid wardrobe of jeans, a few khakis, and some knit drawstring pants will go nicely with my layers. I'm probably (spending entirely too much money but they come in longs, which means really long darnit) buying these from JCrew. IT'S FOR THE TRIP!
So...next on the list? Shoes! Of course. Last weekend at the Clark's outlet I snagged a pair of privo's at outlet prices. I'm thinking I need at least two pairs of good shoes. Or three. Whatever. IT'S FOR THE TRIP!
Any other good brand recommendations?
OK...So let's talk.
I have a North Face backpack that's really simple. Both my camera bag and my laptop fit in it. I'm thinking about taking this, but any other good suggestions out there? I would need something I could carry on the plane but also take on the bus and into places with us once we got there.
Next...talk to me about cameras. Or lenses. I am sort of camera stupid, I'll admit. I can take an alright picture, but don't try asking me how I did it. I have the fixed 50 mm f 1.8 lens from Canon (which I use 90% of the time), and then the one that came with my Rebel (the 18-55mm f 3.5-5.6 lens). I want great pictures, but I also want to be able to hand my camera to someone and have them be able to take a good picture of me and my family (and I'd like to have my cake and eat it too, thanks). Is there a lens that's better for this than the ones I have? I love the ability to not use the flash with the 50mm. Anyway, I know there are camera experts out there...Can you share some of your expertise?
...And with that, I think this might be longest post in the history of this blog. Congratulations if you made it all the way here. And thanks, in advance for any help.
...Back from the beach. Second major sun exposure of '07. I had thought that bathing oneself in Neutrogena SPF 55 led to some layer of sun protection.
I give you beach day #1 (I swear, I appear paler in pictures than in real life. OK, maybe that's a lie):
And then beach day #2. This is my really fancy bathing suit from the Gap. Or maybe Target. I get my fine clothing establishments mixed up sometimes. I think the t-shirt added an extra 45 SPF. Which would total 100 SPF.
At least with the 3,487 freckles I gained I will fit in better with the Irish next month!
"I know I can be annoying. I give tasks. Ask anyone. My dog is looking at me. I can tell she wants something urgently. She looks like her head is about to pop off. That's her 'give me what I want right now' look. i guess what goes around comes around."
