...On Friday, our first-born will undergo TPLO surgery for her ACL. We hope it will make her life better in the long run. We hope she knows how much we love her. We hope we sleep on Thursday night and are not full of worry. We hope she heals well and doesn't hurt her other leg in the meantime. We hope she is back to chasing rabbits (and eventually a little boy) come fall.
If you can think about her on Friday morning, that would mean a lot.

Bailey the Chocolate Lab in Philadelphia will be thinking of you all!

Best wishes to Charmer. Here's hoping she doesn't do what my Belle did - just as one leg was recovered, she did in her other leg and somehow managed to get a grass seed in her back at the same time. Boy, did she look a mess - everyone thought she'd been hit by a car. With both legs hairless and much of her back. But she recovered and went on to live a long happy life. I'm sure Charmer will do just fine.
Bailey and Rosie send their love. As do I.

Dear Charmer,
I'm crossing my paws that your operation goes well. I'm also thinking you should milk your injury for a while if it means extra treats and cuddles. A dog's gotta do what a dog's gotta do you know!
Love,
Walker
P.S.- Being the first born is pretty cool, right?

Dear Charmer,
I, and my mom and canine siblings on earth will be thinking of you as you undergo your surgery! I had that same surgery (on both legs -- but not at the same time!), and want to tell you that you and your mom and dad should not worry. You will be just fine -- and feeling so much better when you're healed!
Tell your mom and dad that while it may be scary to see you all shaved and bandaged, that things actually look a lot worse than they are. The hardest thing about my surgery was that we didn't have any carpeted floors on the 1st floor... but my mom put down these nice runners so that I would not lose my footing when I had to go outside to go potty.
Also -- tell your mom that 2 things really helped with the healing process. First, they got stool softeners from the vet, which were a godsend. And then they also mixed canned pumpkin in with my food, just to keep things "flowing" so to speak. 'Cuz as weird as it is to talk about -- the most difficult part of the whole thing was the potty part. My mom also held a towel under my hips to support my weight while I went potty, and that helped a lot too. Plus, I think it made her feel like she was doing something to help me, which I think made her feel better.
My favorite thing was when mom would come and lie down next to me on the floor and just pet me and talk to me. That made me feel lots better.
Hang in there, Charmer -- we are ALL rooting for you!
Love,
Logan (and Liberty, Ellie, Scout and Lynne!)
