...Have I mentioned how much I love working with Heidi? In my mind, I had a vision for how the kitchen would look. And then she went and put it all together and made it look so pretty:
We changed up the kitchen layout quite a bit and it has me so, so, so excited about the entire first floor. Here's the old plan (thanks again to Heidi for these great images):
...and the new plan (and yes, the pantry is big, I told you so. I'm pretty sure it's bigger than Charlie's bedroom in Baltimore. I kid. Sort of):
...and here is a really bad photo of the reclaimed floors I am coveting, from a whiskey distillery in Alabama. Or at least that's what the manufacturer says. They are probably from someone's basement.
(I have no idea if these will end up in our house yet. I'm currently scouring the wooded lot for a money tree).
And here's the house tonight:
(I call it the Little House in the Big Woods).
Cement gets poured for the porches and garage tomorrow, roof goes on Saturday, windows in on Monday. And on Tuesday, I'm pitching a tent in the middle of the living room and moving in. You don't think the builder would mind, do you?

Funny, when I was looking at your pics earlier, I thought "little house in the big woods". GREAT MINDS think alike! LOL
Can I share your tent? You will be sure there are no bugs or snakes, right?

Doing the dishes in your new kitchen will feel like a holiday instead of a chore. Love it!

Okay, since the pantry is taken, I'll take the mudroom. I have come to believe it is the most important room in the house (even more than the pantry). Oh the shoes...
It looks lovely! Man, that went up fast!

I'll take the office. It looks like there is an entry to the kitchen from the office. That's my kind of place. :)

There's a photo on Facebook that instantly made me think of you and your new house. Search for the "Build.com" page on Facebook and look through their wall photos. There's a wall photo of a family tree and photos painted on the wall. Love it! It just made me think of you!

I am so happy for you guys! It will be great to let our kids ru. Around outside and be free in the great big woods!

Love the changes you made to the kitchen plan. Your island will really open things up!
And "stately kitsch"!??! That is the coolest way to describe your style I've ever heard.

Is the cooktop on the island now? I'm just questioning this because many of my customers complain about the kids sitting at the island while they're cooking and the danger of it.

Laura....Is there no dining room on the first floor?

total house envy. ;)

Awesome! I have friends that have kitchen islands and I'm jealous! Our layout wouldn't fit one. I agree with Nancy that you may want the cooktop still on the side. The island will give you a ton of room for eating and prep. Kids can color while your cooking too! :)

I don't have a Heidi but I DO have plans to get a farmhouse sink! We are twinsies! That kitchen is gorgeous.

I love what you did changing up the kitchen! There is something amazing about having the island open to the living space, I think. It just opens everything up.
