...equilibrium - restored

...It's funny how the first week after my camera was stolen, I thought maybe I could survive with just a point and shoot. Maybe we should put the insurance money in savings. But then I started going through iphoto and seeing photos from the last few months. I needed my camera back. And I needed it NOW.

Tonight I have (a) camera back. Same make, same model as the one that was stolen. But let me tell you, the thieves might have my camera, and they might have a memory card full of wedding photos, but I've got their instruction manual (ha!) and I've got their battery charger (ha!) and I've got the little towel that cleans the lenses (ha! ha!)

Lots of fun stuff this weekend to photograph. Can't wait to break this puppy in.

...batter up

...Softball Season 2008 has begun. We started the season with a double-header win. Both games were over in the fifth inning because we're so awesome and scored so many runs. I love our team. It's made up of a bunch of teachers and staff from my school, and a lot of husbands and wives. We're a funny bunch, but we get it done.

I hit the first pitch that was thrown to me, and even got on first base. Of course, the fact that it only made it about ten feet from home base resulted in Ken getting tagged out at second base. "Way to take one for the team, babe," I said.

I play catcher. Laugh with me, please. I'm happy to report that I walked away from Games One and Two with only a small bruise on my elbow. Don't ask.  Every inning I would look at those on the bench and say, "Anyone want to play catcher?" This would be shortly followed by the sound of crickets chirping.

I'm still a little scared of the ball. Because this is what happened last year when the ball and I had a little too much contact (no, that's not calogen).

...we'll call this one "tempting fate"

...Me, outside the chapel at Molly's wedding, flaunting my camera. "Go ahead, take it. I dare you!"

Meckenzie (who needs a blog so I can link to her because she is the funniest person I know) posted her  pictures from Molly's wedding, proof to me that I was, in fact, there.

Who's it going to be? Who do you want it to be? (Two very distinct questions).

My thoughts:

Jesse - she wants to like him. She really, really wants to like him.

Graham - she wants to not like him. She knows she really, really shouldn't like him.

Jason - the nice guy. Will he finish first?

Jeremy - the dark horse. I still don't know if I like him. He's hot though.

Previews - Graham obviously didn't have the conversation with his mother beforehand about NOT bringing up the fact that his longest relationship has been four weeks (isn't that how long they tape The Bachelorette? Uh oh).

And the real, burning question?

...dad memories

...In honor of Father's Day and the U.S. Open, I thought I would tell my favorite dad golf story.

I was never really a golfer, but my dad was. During many of my weekends growing up, the television in our house was tuned to golf. The interest was there for me, but let's say the skill was lacking.

One weekend, my dad decided to take me to the driving range. I had hand-me-down golf clubs that seemed older than me, older than my dad. I was hacking (that's the best way to describe my swing) at the ball. The range was very crowded, so the golfers had looped around a bit. As I continued my elegant swing, I hit one and out of the corner of my eye, saw it go through an older, larger, gentleman's legs.

Oh my. I am a disgrace to my father, I thought.

The man, as I said, was larger, and older (he's even larger and older now that the years have gone past). He turned to me and in an eastern European accent he said, "You didn't think I saw that did you?" (Although with his accent it sounded more like, "Zee didn't zink dat I saw dat did zee?")

I was mortified. But that story makes my father giggle like a little boy.

Happy Father's Day, Dad! Lots of love and embarrassing stories coming your way...

...Yesterday on the beach, Ken said to me (and I quote), "The only way you'll get tan is if you don't put 'that stuff' on." He was referring to sunscreen. Well, unintentionally, I showed Ken just what happens when I don't "put that stuff on." I was wearing shorts, and clearly my hand with the sunscreen went one way, and the sun went the other.

And I have really long legs, lest you think I'm showing way too much skin here. :) (The camera strap adds a nice touch, no?)

...reliance on technology

...Mine started at an early age. (Like my joystick? Pretty sweet, I think).

For 48 hours we have been without e-mail or phone at work. The first 10 hours were pretty cool. I got lots of work done. My desk is super clean. But I won't lie - it's killing me. I'm that employee that prides herself on writing people back within an hour of receiving an e-mail. I'm going to be out of the office tomorrow and good God I can't put up an out-of-the-office notice. Woe is me. The world might end.

...snow day

...What? You mean you didn't see snow in the forecast I posted last weekend?

I got a call this morning at 7 a.m. that the School's "snow chain" was in effect. It was a chilly 75 degrees outside. Last night's lightning and thunder knocked out electricity and water at school.

Those of you who are teachers or work at a school know the shear joy of an unexpected day off. Especially in June. Of course, I am in the middle of a to-do list that is 1,546,923 things long, but without electricity, I am no use as an employee.

So I went shopping!

I love this. I have no idea where I'm going to put it, or what I want to put on it, but right now I'm pretty content just owning it.

It's holding a solitary prom picture of my mom's ...She is on the left (I know, the lack of sequins on her dress is downright appalling).
