...I heard myself say to a friend the other day, "He might be a pediatrician, but I'm a mom."
And I paused for a second. Realizing that I had, in fact, become my mother.
Now in my case, I'm probably paying myself too high of a compliment by saying that.
He likes me though:
...I don't know how I lived before not knowing the feeling of holding you and feeling your laughter against my belly.
...yeah, yeah, he's four months old (almost) and the last piece of artwork arrived today. HE ARRIVED A MONTH EARLY, PEOPLE! Threw me all off schedule.
A long time ago, I saw a child's room in a magazine with high beadboard and the child's artwork all around the top of the beadboard and I knew that was what I wanted for my baby's room. Someday, I imagine these frames will be filled with Charlie's artwork.
The bookshelf was there (you might remember it from this rooms former use as a scrapbook space). But we added the doors, after my asking Ken over and over about getting them. I had called the contractor literally the day before Charlie was born. When Charlie came early, I turned to Ken at the hospital and said, "I didn't get my damn doors!"
I counted last night while I was feeding Charlie, and there are nine different things in the room from etsy:
"c" cross stitch pattern from andwabisabi. Alphabet letterpress print from simplesongdesigns. Muddy morning print from belle and boo. Two postcards from tutti studio. Wood puzzles from wood that's fun. Dinosaur from nwtoycrafters. Mobile from lollipop moon (and I have to say she is AWESOME and made the mobile to match the rug). Clock from decoylab. Customized golden retriever print from modern art everyday.
Above the beadboard is a very very pale blue. Charlie has two wooden trains. One my grandfather Charlie gave to my brother. The other was given to our Charlie by our Casey family. And he has lots of books, which he is already reading to me. On Thursdays we read the encyclopedia.
The blue elephant on the bookshelf is an original Carron. Fat baby in the crib is an original Laura and Ken.
(We think that Charlie smiled the biggest the other day when we suggest he simply call my mom JoAnn).
Today was a JoAnn day for Charlie and Charmer. I called at around 3, and asked my mom what Charlie was wearing (by 3, he's typically on outfit number three or four). "An undershirt," she said. It was that kind of day.
...I mean, really, how can this not make you smile?
PS - I promise this is the last sunglasses post. But I might have my fingers crossed behind my back.

Sorry it's been sort of slow and dull here the last few days. We are just content. And there's not much more to write about than that!
...August 15, 2009. Remember that date. The day I officially became old. The day I called the cops with a noise complaint. No, not because of my infant. He apparently can sleep through anything. But because of me. Sleep is a precious thing these days and if you mess with my sleep, you mess with me.
Charlie says, "Yeah, I pity the fool who messes with my momma."
...He was a babe magnet on the beach. It's the fat rolls and toothless grin:
(I promise you that's Charlie under there and not some random baby I grabbed on the beach).
What a week. Charlie met new friends and new family, went to his first art fair, swung around and around in the chair with his Pop Pop, slept like a champ in an unfamiliar crib, smiled from ear to ear over and over, and really started talking. In full sentences, of course. His first question was, "When are we going back to the beach?
...it is SO nice to be away at a house that has carpet. And stairs that don't creak. Doors that close with just a click. Toilets that don't gurgle and showers that don't sound like Niagra Falls. We are trying to have Charlie as used to noise as possible, but there's something about an infant sleeping that makes me crave NEW CONSTRUCTION.
Charlie agrees.
